Thomas Moore

“We need people in our lives with whom we can be as open as possible. To have real conversations with people may seem like such a simple, obvious suggestion, but it involves courage and risk.”

About Me

My Professional Journey

My private practice is in its fourteenth year and has been the most enlivening work context I have experienced. It is enormously rewarding to offer the opportunity for others to engage in meaningful personal exploration as they find pathways to greater freedom, creativity and fulfilment.

Equipped with my original training and solid grounding in clinical psychology, I have immersed myself in relational, experiential and arts based approaches to psychotherapy over many years. I have woven together the diverse threads of my training and clinical experience with delicate and dedicated care, and have developed an approach that has solidity and depth. I remain open to continual learning.

My Values

It is of great importance to me to create emotional safety for the people with whom I work. I value curiosity and openness; supporting others to express themselves without needing to hold back through fear of judgement or overwhelm. My aim is to cultivate creativity and safety within sessions to enable both my client and myself to explore, experiment, make mistakes and foster repair. This requires mutual generosity and respect.

Across the community sector, psychiatry settings, and private practice, I have considerable experience responding to the impacts of trauma and early attachment relationship challenges. I hold skills in carefully navigating these complex past experiences, whilst maintaining empathy, honesty and hope.

About Therapy

Creativity & Collaboration

Whatever it is that brings you to therapy, I will collaborate with you sensitively and attentively so that we can move towards deeper understanding of what really matters to you. Through this intricate and attuned process, we can discover what you need in order to experience relief and a greater sense of how to move forward. I won’t advise, or consider myself to know more than you do. We may both be uncertain at times as we move through to a clearer view of what you need, right now, to live fully with a sense of meaning and connection.

From my perspective, therapy is a time to openly explore your thoughts and feelings while receiving empathy, respect and skilled listening. Creative arts techniques may be offered in addition to talking, providing gentle and surprising ways to discover and shift perspective.

A Relational Approach

My approach places emphasis on enabling people to build and maintain supportive and enriching relationships in all areas of their lives. Holding an understanding of the impact of childhood relationships, I offer an opportunity to reflect on how early patterns of relating may be continuing into the present. I am committed to empowering my clients to make flexible choices through greater understanding of themselves and their relationships.
